Hanzas Perons - Main Venue

Hanzas iela 16A, Vidzemes priekšpilsēta, Rīga, LV-1045

The story of Hanzas Perons origins goes back to the mid 18th and 19th centuries, when there was a railway line built in Riga to Mangaļi district with a branch to Andrejsala grain elevator. And this is where Riga’s cargo railway station was created, where the last cargo was loaded in 2009. Nowadays there are just a few buildings left in the neighbourhood, but the idea to connect the far and the different for mutual benefit has remained and the place was reborn into a new and modern location called Hanzas Perons.

The rebirth of the old railway station warehouse started in 2017, when its reconstruction unfolded from the idea of architect Reinis Liepiņš – to combine the 120-year history of the building with a modern approach in building culture venues. Aiming to create something wholesome, the priority was the broad functionality of the new venue and up-to-date solutions for event-holding. In the main hall, the renovated brick walls, ceiling beams and original wooden doors were retained for the historical atmosphere, adding also the folding acoustic dividing walls that offer transformation of the room for events of various size to create a unique mood for even the smallest culture event. Being used for one single purpose for more than a century, today Hanzas Perons building is opening its doors to the audiences in a new form, offering all kinds of experiences.

The building was expanded both functionally and visually as the glass and galleries on both sides of the building were integrated into the complex. One of the most attractive parts of the venue’s interior is a bar in a shape of a train car in the East gallery. Underneath the lobby, there is cloakroom and WC. The newly built part of the venue offers backstage space for the event organisers – big storage space, well- equipped kitchen and dressing rooms for the artists.

Thanks to the investment and dedication of the philanthropists Ernests Bernis and Oļegs Fiļs, a more than hundred years old building of former railway station warehouse has opened its doors once again in 2019 as a modern venue for culture. Today Hanzas Perons is housing creative spirits and functional solutions, setting a new level of excellence for making and enjoying culture.

The House of Black Heads - Dinner on 26 September

Rātslaukums 7, Rīga, LV-1050

For centuries, the House of the Black Heads (Melngalvju nams) has celebrated the spirit of trade and enterprise. This remarkable venue, a masterpiece of Gothic architecture with a rich history dating back to 1334, was once the gathering place for the Brotherhood of Black Heads—a guild of unmarried merchants and shipowners who played a significant role in Riga’s development as a city of trade and commerce. Here, meetings and feasts were held and major deals struck. Unfortunately, World War II brought utter destruction to the House of Black Heads. What we see today is a copy of the original building, opened in 1999. Its welcoming rooms host exhibitions, concerts, dinners, and receptions such as ours.
